Ahoy Mateys.

Some of you may be wondering what ever happened to the Pirate Mama role I was playing after Alex was born. (You may remember that I was stricken with Bell's Palsy two days after I delivered Alex.) Unfortunately the Bell's is still hanging around. Hence the reason I have not posted tons of pictures of myself on the blog. Smiling with half your face is kinda weird! I am happy to report, though, that it seems to be improving. Several people in the last week have commented that they see real improvement. I'm encouraged.

It's not exactly a treasure map with tons of gold at the end, but it is a relief from the "poop deck" of postpartum recovery issues. I'm hoping to give up my Pirate status soon.

I guess I could look on the bright side - at least I'm not dealing with a hook for a hand!

Thank you for the update. Just today when I was doing dishes I was praying for you and wondered if the Bell's Palsy was completely healed. I will keep praying.

We would still love to see a pic of you with your sweet baby!

Or a peg leg and rotted teeth - really compared to a pirate you have alot going for you - my mom had bells too - she was on steroids I think - we always kidded her about avoiding those drug tests.

Malita, you have a great point! A peg leg, rotted teeth, AND the eye patch would be frighteningly close to Pirate status. This eye patch, too, shall pass. =)

SO many people have told me they have also known someone with Bell's. I never knew how common it was until I had it. It's reassuring, in a way.

Hi! I recently stumbled across your blog. I'm not sure if we ever met while you were at CBU...but I was a student there!

I just wanted to encourage you as I know exactly what you are going through with your Bell's. I had it (TWICE!) during high school. I remember all too well taping my eye shut and wearing an eye patch ;)You seem to have such a great attitude about it though. And you're right, it too will pass!!

Please tell me that you are still taking pictures...even with your half-smile. Because I look back and wish that I had. I avoided taking pictures completely and now feel like I'm missing a chunk of captured memories.

I'll be praying for your recovery!

Nicole,

I found the link to your blog on a friend's blog quite awhile ago (even before your wedding) and it's been such a blessing to me. It's great to see all that God has done in your life since you left CBU and it's been great to pray for others, like the Saxons, that I would never know about except through your blog. Keep sharing! I'll continue to pray for you, that God would heal you.

Be blessed!
